Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express overview

The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is best suited for you if you prefer cash-back rewards over travel rewards. This card may be a good fit if you aren’t willing to pay an annual fee or you won’t spend more than several hundred dollars on your card each month. Rating*: ⭐⭐⭐

Making the most of travel rewards can be a challenging endeavor — which is why many consumers lean toward cash-back credit cards. There are many options in this category, including several that have no annual fee.

One such card — the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express — underwent a significant refresh in July 2022, with boosted earning rates and added statement credits. It may not be the best choice for everyone, but it does offer solid returns on popular spending categories without an annual fee (see rates and fees).

This card is ideal for those who prefer cards without annual fees or cash-back rewards instead of points and miles. With a recommended credit score of 670 or above, the Blue Cash Everyday Card can also help students and young professionals continue to build credit while earning modest rewards.

Let’s take a closer look at the Blue Cash Everyday Card to decide whether this card is right for you.

Blue Cash Everyday welcome offer

The Blue Cash Everyday Card is currently offering a $200 statement credit after you spend $2,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. That’s a 10% return on spending and the highest offer we’ve seen on this card.

THE POINTS GUY

Due to Amex’s once-per-lifetime rule, you likely won’t be eligible for this welcome offer if you have or previously had the Blue Cash Everyday Card. Amex also might consider other factors when determining your eligibility for the welcome offer.

Luckily, Amex has a welcome offer eligibility tool that will tell you whether you’re eligible for the bonus — before you submit. If not being eligible to earn the bonus is a deal-breaker, you can withdraw your application before there’s a hard pull on your credit.

While the spending caps might be a turnoff for some, $6,000 annually is still nothing to sneeze at, and a 3% return in broad categories like supermarkets and online retailers is solid.

Redeeming rewards with the Blue Cash Everyday

The Blue Cash Everyday Card is a cash-back credit card, so the redemption process is very straightforward. You earn cash-back rewards in the form of Blue Cash reward dollars, which you can redeem for statement credits with no minimum redemption amount.

Occasionally, American Express may offer you other ways to redeem reward dollars, such as gift cards or merchandise. TPG credit card writer Ryan Wilcox prefers to redeem his cash back for Amazon gift cards and select merchandise when available because of its versatility and ease of use.

However, if given other options, ensure that your redemption rate is the same or better than redeeming for a statement credit. With statement credits, your rewards are worth one cent apiece, so you’ll want to make sure any other redemption is at least that valuable.
